I build things for the stage and for the people on it. My work began with curiosity about prop making and the VFX artists and YouTube makers who inspired me, like Adam Savage. It grew through miniature painting, puppetry, and a drone I rebuilt four times until it could survive a CO2 silo launch. Woodworking goes back even further: my grandfather took me out to cut bamboo when I was six, and a middle school shop teacher turned that into a love of carpentry, which I now practice with a focus on hand tools and human precision.
In school theater, I moved from builder to master carpenter and set designer. On Little Women, I took over finishing the set mid-season and built a thrust over an uneven floor. On CLUE on Stage, I taught myself Sweet Home 3D, drafted the stage, and learned framing from a substitute technical director. On Mamma Mia!, I designed the set, drew the floor plans, and led the crew, including a cantilevered balcony framed to code and window angles that kept the band behind the cyc hidden.
My work also reaches beyond the shop. I am co-president of Two for One Music, a youth-led nonprofit whose benefit concerts support young North Korean defectors, and I have run tech for its Hope Concert since 2024. With three other students, I made the documentary Under the Lamp: The Nearest Darkness, which won Second Prize in the Jury Excellence Award category of the 2026 Youth Human Rights Video Contest. My part explores the Right to Be Recorded, which is a fitting theme for someone who works behind the scenes.
Behind every performance I work on is a technical setup that audiences rarely see, and I take pride in making it invisible. For recitals and jazz bands, I set up the sound, cabling, and stage layout before anyone arrives, so performers can walk on and play without worrying about the equipment. I also run livestreams so family and friends who can’t attend can still see and hear the performance, balancing camera framing, audio levels, and a steady connection in real time. Jazz bands bring their own challenge, with many instruments sharing a stage and solos that shift the balance from moment to moment, so I listen closely and adjust as the music changes.
